Story to follow later.
Getting into the backstories of my PSL characters. This is back when Sammie was probably no more than 17 years old and being courted by Charlie.
Basic idea (at this point) is Charlie, who is seeking his fortune in the Lumber boom comes to Michigan from New York. On his way, he stops off in a small town to stretch his legs and ends up bumping into Sam. Love at first sight, but he still hops aboard the train and continues to head north. However, he gets off at the next station 20 miles down the track and starts working there. He eventually runs into Sam again, who he can't keep off of his mind, and she of him. They write back and forth and when Charlie can afford it, come to visit her.
Had a bit of a trick trying to find a style for Sam (clothing wise), but I looked through some old family photos from the time (1915 or thereabouts in the country), and sorta came up with this. Speaking of old family photos...that's where the pose reference came from.
Charlie and Sam are my original characters.

Overall Vision Originality Technique ImpactThis overall scene is very serene and peaceful. It really gives the feeling of a calm, quite moment in an otherwise hectic life. It's like that moment of joyful peace that being with a loved one can give. The coloring and shading portrays an evening scene very well; the colors of the sky are superb. As for the background, it is a little sketchy, but that can add more depth to a piece. In this case, the eye wants to rest on the figures, instead of on the background, simply because the figures are the most rendered and feel the most solid.
The figures' anatomy does seem off at the necks, and her chin seems smothered, but otherwise very well drawn. The colors may be a little muddy, but in a way that adds to the evening scene. Overall, wonderful work.
